Postcard
Postcard:
In order to create my solar eclipse themed postcard within InDesign, I began by researching the path of the 2024 eclipse and choosing a city it would be directly affected. Following this, I planned on making a postcard encouraging tourists to visit Syracuse, NY to view the solar eclipse. I began my creative process by downloading several images, then editing a solar eclipse image into the sky of the scenic image of the city of Syracuse within Adobe PhotoShop. Then, I started working on my project in InDesign, by first creating my 2 page, 4.25x6 inch, .125 inch bleed, document and flipping the second page by 90 degrees CW. Starting with page 1, I made an image box using the "rectangle frame" tool and inserted my edited Syracuse eclipse image. I flipped this image 90 degrees as well to have it fit the front page appropriately. Following this I created another image box across the page and filled it with the color white. I added a text box on top of the white section and titled my postcard, using an interesting and relevant font, as well as colors in accordance with the background image, as I had made the color palate with the dropper tool previously. I then moved onto the second page in which I created a large image box where I placed the same edited image. I added a white-filled box in the center of this page in order to create the illusion of a border consisting of the Syracuse eclipse image. Next, I added a text box to the top left corner of this white box and used the same saved font and theme colors to label this page. On the opposing top corner, I created an image box and placed the JPG image of my TagBrush and adjusted the frame fitting accordingly, before added a wavy stroke, giving the illusion of a stamp. Lastly I used the "line" tool in order to create a vertical page divider and three horizontal lines for addressing the final postcard. Overall, I believe the skills I have learned previous to this assignment in both PhotoShop and Illustrator, as well as our practice assignment with InDesign during class, helped me immensely in creating both my images and aesthetic final postcard layout.
