Artist Statement:
    To create my Calligramme, I first made a pencil and paper sketch of a logo I created in order to represent a multiplicity of factors contributing to where I see myself in twenty years. Using the pen, shape, and text tools and a variety of their features I was able to create this visual calligramme in Adobe Illustrator. Using the words from my letter to my future self, I was able to create the shapes and outlines for my graphic. Since my letter pertains mainly to health and fitness, I created the head of my figure from a piece of fitness equipment called a kettlebell and included leaves branching from the arm of the figure. Moreover, I want to establish my own personal training business in the future, so I thought creating a logo would represent my aspirations.

Letter to My Future Self:
    Dear future self, 

As I begin to write this letter, as a nineteen-year-old college student attending the University of Tampa, I am filled with a sense of curiosity and wonder about the journey I will pursue throughout the next twenty years. I am in anticipation about the experiences I will endure and savor in the upcoming years and can only envision where I am at the time you are reading this. To start, I anticipate that your completion of your Advertising and Public relations degree and graduation has gone smoothly, as we currently on the dean’s list and are interested in the content we are learning within our time at the University of Tampa. Additionally, I hope you have become both established and successful as a personal trainer in the city of Tampa, as I know that is one of my largest current aspirations. My desire and drive to be successful in doing what I love has always been strong and I am convinced that we have stayed consistent in this mindset throughout the years. As I am predicting that we have become widely successful in our personal training career in the state of Florida, I wonder if we have yet to establish our long-term goals of either opening our active wear line or fitness studio? I am aware that both these aspirations take a lot of trial and error, along with time to become successful, but I hope whichever path you chose to pursue that your love for health and fitness has remained strong. I can’t wait to feel the satisfaction of helping many people along their journey to health and wellness and the to feel the reward of helping others achieve their own personal fitness goals. As we planned to go to into the advertising department for an athletic brand after graduating and before our entrepreneurial ventures, I wonder how we felt about that work environment and if the income and job enjoyment were satisfactory? All in all, I wanted to say that I am proud of your hard work and efforts in your education, career, and health, and that no matter what path you chose to follow after graduation, I know you chose something you are both passionate about and enjoy, while making a substantial income.

     After viewing the documentary based upon the art of Platon's photography, portraits in particular, I feel as if I have gained knowledge on the importance of emotion behind photography as well. Platon explains how his portraits and what is captured is dependent on both his and his subject mood and state of mind in that brief moment when the photo is captured. Platon is specifically known for his portraits of famous world leaders, often featured as the cover of Time Magazine. These portraits allow for the subjects to express the emotions surrounding power and therefore send a message to the Time Magazine's American viewers.     Once I had reached the end of this documentary episode by "Abstract: The Art of Design", I followed the next link in the assignment in order to view "The People's Portfolio". Id Homework 1

VIDEO 1 :    This video provided a brief overview of the basic functions of Adobe InDesign. The video starts by the narrator reassuring the viewer that if they are familiar with both Illustrator and PhotoShop, that this program's tools will be relatively familiar and easy to operate. Next, the creator explains both the "selection" and "direct selection" tools, which I feel will be easy to operate as they are very to similar to that of the selection tools in Adobe Illustrator. Additionally, he reviews both the "type" tool and "type on path" tool, which we became familiar with in Adobe illustrator while creating both the Calligram and Poster projects. Lastly, the narrator reviews the multidimensionality of the "pen" tool which we once again used quite a bit in Illustrator.
