Ai Homework 1
1.
This video starts by reviewing the basic tools and windows used in Illustrator and explains the complex dynamic of all the aspects involved in the design program. Erin, the video creator reviews the basic tools the audience needs to know in order to create vectors, simple drawings, and designs. The “hand” tool seems simple to use and as if it would be very useful when creating pieces within the program because it allows you to move the screen to add detail to different parts of your project. Additionally, she moves into how to use the “zoom” tool which seems simple yet essential to adding further detail to certain, smaller sections of your project. From here the video creator dives into Artboard tools, Rotation tools, and Text tools which go slightly beyond the basic functions of Illustrator and seem as if they would take a bit more practice to master.

The next video I observed attempted to cover every Adobe Illustrator tool, with brief descriptions of their functionality. Once again, this video started with the “hand” tool, but interesting referred to it as the “selection” tool, unlike the previous video’s narrator. Due to the descriptions of the tools being brief this video went into more of the program’s tools but didn’t provide as much context to the usage due to the narrator’s fast pace in order to cover the immense about of features Illustrator offers. I found it interesting how the narrator included the shortcuts for tools such as the rectangle tool by using the letter “m” while clicking and dragging and then by holding shift you can create a perfect square. I believe this video will be a great reference to look back because of the variety of functions and tools it explains, as the course progresses and my personal projects become more complex.

The last video I watched in order to gain a greater understanding of Adobe Illustrator began by explaining the function of the tool bar and how to save our new document with the shortcut of command “s”. The narrator then moves into explaining how to create layers within your project, which I found interesting and useful for placing images and designs on top of each other to create a unique piece. Another aspect of this video I found interesting and seems like it would be simple to master is the “star” tool in which you use the up and down keys to control the amount of points your shape ends up having. Another common tool discussed was the “pen” tool, which allows you to click to create a linear line or click and drag to create a curved line. The “text” and “brush” tools were also explained and after watching the tutorial on how to use these functions within Illustrator I feel as if both would be essential to customizing my future projects and allowing for creativity within my pieces.
